The Heart of America Boxer Club and its members are dedicated to the protection and betterment of the Boxer breed. Our members stand ready to ensure the humane and effective rescue of any Boxer in need, whether from animal shelters, owners who no longer care for their Boxers in a responsible manner, or strays found wandering at large.

To that end, HOABC supports boxer rescue activities by (1) promoting responsible breeding practices which includes the spaying and neutering of pets, (2) education of the public about the special qualities, characteristics and requirements of our breed and (3) appropriate referrals of parties to Boxer Rescue organizations.

Boxer Rescue has been viable in the Midwest for the past several decades. Thanks to the dedication of HOABC members such as Fran Davidson, Joyce Peckham and more recently Liz Phillips and Sabrina Jay, the ethics, standards and successes of boxer rescue in Kansas and Missouri have been recognized by their peers.

In the mid 1990's, the groups in Kansas and metro Kansas City came together and formed MO/KAN Boxer Rescue, an affiliate of the American Boxer Rescue Association. MO/KAN Boxer Rescue became a not-for-profit organization in 2000 whose aim is the promotion of responsible breeding practices, breed education and assistance to shelters and individuals with boxers that have become homeless through no fault of their own. MO/KAN does not maintain a shelter facility, but rather networks individuals looking for an adult boxer with the shelters and humane societies that have them. Through association volunteers and licensed commercial kennels, a few boxers are provided housing to avoid the overcrowding that exists in shelters and affords them a better opportunity to find a new family.

MO/KAN has joined with boxer rescues in Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska to form a consortium with common goals of sharing tasks, education and resources, thus sharing some of the overall burden across the 4 state area.
